Info

Michelle Hamer’s largest works explore barriers and boundaries with physical materials often associated with such physical zones. Hamer's Love Knows All Barriers piece is stitched through orange construction mesh using barricade tape. “You are my past” uses “Caution do not enter” tape, while “I am your future” stitched on the reverse side uses “Danger” barricade tape.

Hamer studied as an architect and her work heavily references urban landscapes and the built environment in a highly irreverent and engaging play. Her work featured in She Persists NGV, Melbourne; MoCa London director Michael Petry’s The Word is Art (2018); Stephen Banham’s book Characters (2011) exploring a history of signage in Melbourne; Luke Feireiss’ Imagine Architecture and Barry and Jobson’s The Craft Companion. In 2015 Hamer was joint winner of the inaugural Tapestry Design Prize for Architects through the Australian Tapestry Workshop.
