Biography
Freja Carmichael is a Ngugi woman belonging to the Quandamooka People of Moreton Bay. She is a curator working alongside artists and communities. Her work is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of First Nations fibre practices and collaborative curatorial approaches. Freja has curated several exhibitions focussing on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander fibre work including: Gathering Strands, Redland Art Gallery (2016); Weaving the Way, The University of Queensland Art Museum (2019); and forthcoming project Long water: Fibre stories at the Institute of Modern Art.
