The second talk in the Women in Architecture series, Thinking Through Craft will explore the relationship between craft and architecture, from practice to innovation. This 2020 Asia Pacific Architecture Festival event was developed in partnership with the University of Queensland School of Architecture and transdisciplinary studio, The Fabricated Frame. To uncover the role of craft techniques and traditions in driving enterprise, the panel will draw from the fields of education, architecture, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art, and craft research. Increasingly, craft practice is being utilized to foster social and cultural growth and to drive innovation across a range of sectors. As such, speakers will examine the importance of practice, materials and sustainability, alongside socially expressive approaches focused on positively mediating between past, present, and future.
Women in Architecture extends the conversation generated by the New Woman exhibition, which reveals the art, personal stories and enduring legacies of Brisbane’s most significant and ground-breaking female artists over the past 100 years.
